For many years Kyoto was inhabited by a group of tanuki and tengu, living with people who were unaware of the existence of these creatures. He spends his days taking care of people, observing humans with his transformation ability, and facing the mysterious woman Benten. But behind the peace and tranquility lies a long-standing painful memory of Yasaburu's father, leader of the Tanuki community, being killed and eaten by a group of people known as the Friday Fellows. It follows the trials and tribulations of the Shimogamo brothers as they struggle to avert their own horrific deaths as they come closer to uncovering the truth behind the death of .
